This advance payment from the program will directly benefit the neediest families in cities affected by the prolonged drought.

Starting January 18th, beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família program in 55 municipalities in Amazonas will have the opportunity to withdraw funds from the social program. This decision was made jointly by the federal government and Caixa Econômica Federal, due to the severe drought affecting the Amazon region.

Bolsa Família program advanced in the Amazon region.

The announcement of this action was made during Vice President Geraldo Alckmin's visit to Manaus. It is estimated that approximately half a million people in Amazonas, Acre, and Rondônia have been impacted by the severe drought.

Normally, Bolsa Família payments are made during the last ten business days of each month, and beneficiaries withdraw the funds according to the last digit of their Social Identification Number (NIS). However, this advance payment applies to beneficiaries in Amazonian municipalities that have been declared in a state of emergency by the state governor.

The cities included in this action are the following: Alvarães, Amatura, Anamã, Anori, Atalaia do Norte, Autazes, Barreirinha, Benjamin Constant, Beruri, Boa Vista do Ramos, Boca do Acre, Borba, Caapiranga, Carauari, Careiro, Careiro da Várzea, Coari, Codajás, Eirunepé, Envira, Fonte Boa, Guajará, Humaitá, Ipixuna, Iranduba, Itacoatiara, Itamarati, Itapiranga, Japurá, Juruá, Jutaí, Manacapuru, Manaquiri, Manaus, Manicoré, Maraã, Maués, Nhamundá, Nova Olinda do Norte, Novo Airão, Novo Aripuanã, Parintins, Pauini, Rio Preto da Eva, Santo Antônio do Iça, Sao Paulo de Olivença, Sao Sebastiao do Uatumã, Silves, Tabatinga, Tapauá, Tefé, Tonantins, Uarini, Urucará and Urucurituba.

For families receiving benefits through the Digital Social Savings Account, it will be possible to manage funds using the Caixa Tem app, avoiding the need to go to a bank branch.

With this option, it is possible to make withdrawals at lottery outlets and authorized Caixa Aqui locations, as well as use self-service terminals by generating a token directly in the application.

How it works

Additionally, through the Caixa Tem virtual debit card, beneficiaries will be able to make purchases at supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies, and other establishments that accept cards. It will also be possible to make transfers via PIX and pay water, electricity, telephone, and other bills through the app itself or at lottery outlets.

For beneficiaries who have a Bolsa Família program card, they can receive the benefit at lottery outlets and authorized Caixa Aqui locations, as well as using self-service terminals. On the other hand, if they do not have the card, the withdrawal can be made at Caixa branches upon presentation of a photo ID.

The Bolsa Família

Bolsa Família is an income transfer program implemented by the Brazilian federal government. It was created with the goal of combating poverty and social inequality by providing direct financial assistance to families in situations of economic vulnerability. Here is an explanation of how the program works:

Register

The first step to participate in the Bolsa Família program is registering families in the Unified Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico). This registration is the gateway to various social programs, including Bolsa Família. Families need to provide information such as income, family composition, education level, among others.

Eligibility Criteria

Families are selected based on eligibility criteria that include low per capita income (the maximum value for participation in the program), the presence of children and adolescents aged 0 to 17, pregnant women and nursing mothers, among other specific criteria. Income and family composition are key factors in determining eligibility.

Benefits

Families eligible for the program receive monthly benefits that vary according to their economic situation. There are different types of benefits, such as the Basic Allowance, the Variable Allowance, the Youth Variable Allowance, and the Nursing Variable Allowance, which are intended for different beneficiary groups, such as extremely poor families, families with children and adolescents, among others.

Conditions

In addition to receiving the benefit, families are subject to conditionalities, which are requirements that must be met to maintain eligibility for Bolsa Família. The main conditionalities involve school attendance for children and adolescents, as well as the completion of health check-ups, such as vaccinations and prenatal care for pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Payments

The benefits are paid monthly through direct transfers to registered families. They can withdraw the money at bank branches, ATMs, or use the Caixa Tem app.

Oversight

The program is monitored to ensure that beneficiary families are complying with the conditions. If they fail to comply, their benefits may be suspended or canceled.

Follow-up

In addition to oversight, the Bolsa Família program offers support and guidance to families to improve their living conditions, such as access to education, health, and social assistance.

The Bolsa Família program has been fundamental in reducing poverty and inequality in Brazil, providing financial relief to vulnerable families and encouraging access to education and healthcare. The program is an important part of the Brazilian government's social assistance policy.
