About Tauste Supermarkets

It was founded in 1991, named after the founders' grandparents and great-grandparents, immigrants from Spain who arrived in Brazil in 1903 from a place called Taust. Initially, its customers were largely from neighboring communities and rural workers who were attracted by the company's favorable prices and shopped at the new store every month. Soon, the perception of the triad of low prices, excellent service, and product quality expanded its customer base and spread to other communities and cities in the region.

In 2000, the República store opened, still located in the northern part of the original (closed) unit, but with 3,000 m² of sales area, auxiliary stores, a food court, air conditioning, and ample covered parking. This was an important step for the chain to strengthen its brand with consumers in Marília and the surrounding region. In 2004, a second unit was completed in Marília, in the southern part of the city. In 2008, the company embarked on an expansion plan, opening a new store in Bauru.

It was a huge challenge and a valuable lesson, and it gave us a glimpse of growth at the state level. Today, the chain has eight stores. To serve the chain, the Tauste distribution center was established in 2019 along the Presidente Castelo Branco highway in the city of Itu. New stores are expected to join the chain over the next three years. The São José dos Campos unit is already under construction and is expected to be completed by mid-2022.
