About Light
The stable and secure distribution of electricity to the city of Rio de Janeiro was inaugurated on July 30, 1907. To reach what was then the federal capital of Brazil, the Light Group founded the company in Canada in 1904, which was authorized by the Brazilian government to operate in the city on May 30, 1905. Since then, the Group has invested in the construction of hydroelectric power plants, contributing directly to the industrialization process of Brazil.
Simultaneously, the company took over the management of various public services, as well as the production and distribution of electricity, such as natural gas supply, public transport, telephony, and public lighting. Its contributions were crucial to the modernization of the city, which was experiencing a Belle Époque boom at the beginning of the 20th century.
