Receive your refund via Pix!
The Federal Revenue Service has decided to significantly speed up the payment of income tax refunds in 2025. The big news? Pix has become the star of the show. This year, more than 70% of taxpayers entitled to refunds will receive their payments directly via Pix. Yes, quickly, directly into their accounts, and without the hassle of incorrect accounts or banks declining deposits.
This number represents a huge leap compared to previous years. In 2023, only 30% chose Pix. In 2024, the number rose to 45%. Now, 2025 shows that Brazilians have truly embraced the instant system—and rightly so. After all, who doesn't want to see that money arrive without complications?
Why is Pix dominating refunds?
Pix is chosen when filing your income tax return. Simply enter your CPF as the key. And why does this matter? Because it's the safest way to avoid bank account errors. Pix linked to the tax return holder's CPF eliminates any chance of confusion and allows payments to be received even on weekends and holidays.
The IRS reinforces that the only valid refund code is your CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registry). No email, phone, or random information. And because Brazilians love convenience, Pix's popularity continues to grow.
When are payments made?
For those already counting down the days, it's worth knowing: the second batch of refunds will be available starting June 23rd. The actual payment will be made on June 30th, with an 1% correction based on the Selic rate.
If you're not in that group, don't worry. There will still be three more rounds:
- July 31st
- August 29th
- September 30th
In the first batch of 2025 alone, the IRS deposited R$11 billion for more than 6.2 million taxpayers. It was the largest refund ever recorded in a single batch. In other words, the money is flowing—and faster than ever.
Profile of those who declared this year
Brazil filed 43.3 million tax returns on time. Here are some interesting facts:
- 50.3% used the pre-filled template
- 55,5% preferred the simplified version
- 56.5% have amounts to be refunded
These numbers show that taxpayers are increasingly aware of the convenience of digital tax returns. And the more digital they are, the greater the chance of speed—including when it comes to refunds.
And who has priority in the refund?
Not everyone receives payments at the same time. The IRS prioritizes payments. See who's at the front of the line:
- Elderly people over 80 years old
- Elderly people over 60 years of age, people with disabilities or serious illnesses
- Teachers with teaching as their main source of income
- Who used the pre-filled declaration with Pix indicated
- Those who opted for Pix only or the pre-filled option
- Other taxpayers
In other words: if you want to receive your payment sooner next year, it's worth using the pre-filled form and specifying your Pix ID with your CPF. These two criteria put you ahead of the curve.
How to check your refund?
Checking whether your funds have been released is simple. Here's the step-by-step guide:
- Access the Federal Revenue website: www.gov.br/receitafederal
- Click on “My Income Tax”
- Then, select “Check Refund”
Have your login details ready and you're good to go. In just a few seconds, you'll know if your money is on the way.
Real advantages of opting for Pix
Pix isn't just hype—it's actually advantageous for those who need to receive their refund quickly and securely. Here's why:
- Payments are available at any time of the day, including weekends.
- The chance of error is almost zero (as long as the key is the CPF)
- There is no need to indicate agency, account, digit… none of that
- It works for any bank, regardless of the institution's schedule.
Furthermore, Pix is more transparent. As soon as the amount is debited, taxpayers receive confirmation in their bank app. No more waiting for compensation or wondering if it actually went through.
And who missed the deadline?
If you forgot to file your income tax return by May 30th, you'd better hurry. The minimum fine is R$165.74 and can reach R$201.30 of the amount due. You can still file your return, but the delay will hurt your wallet.
A new era for refunds
The Federal Revenue Service's move toward adopting Pix as its primary payment method marks a new chapter in how Brazilians handle their taxes. Refunds, which were previously synonymous with waiting and bureaucracy, can now be received quickly and conveniently—just follow the instructions correctly.
If you haven't yet signed up for Pix with your CPF as the key to receive your refund, you now know what to do next year. After all, who doesn't want their money back as quickly as possible?
